In celebration of Duanwu Festival, also known as “Double Fifth Day”, which falls on May 30th this year, a series of cultural activities will be held in Sanya from May 28th to 30th, 2017.
This year the event will feature three main events: a Duanwu Food Festival at Mangrove Tree World Sanya Bay. a Dragon Boat Festival on Sanya River, and free entry to the Dan Cultural Exhibition Hall. These events aim to teach people about Sanya’s traditional folk customs during Duanwu Festival.
The event will be held at the food street at Mangrove Tree Resort World Sanya Bay from May 28th to 30th, 2017. A series of traditional food of the Dan people, including homemade fish balls and Gangmen Rice Noodles, will be available to taste.
A Dragon Boat Race will be held on the Sanya River on May 29th, 2017, following a grand opening to kickoff the Duanwu Festival on the banks of the Sanya River. A total of four male teams and four female teams from across the city will compete in the race.
Residents and tourists can enjoy free access to the Dan Cultural Exhibition Hall at the Fishing Village in the Nanbianhai Area from May 28th to 30th. The hall houses more than 1,000 cultural artifacts and works of art, ranging from fishing tools, model ships, and costumes to historical pictures that show the great changes and development of the Dan People over the past years.
