Conquer Wuzhishan Five-Finger Mountain, Hainan’s Iconic Landmark
Hainan Wuzhishan Five Finger Mountain Hiking Tour, Day Hiking Tour in Wuzhishan Tropical Rainforest
Location of Wuzhishan Mountain, Hainan – Five Finger Mountain:
Wuzhishan Mountain, also known as Five-Finger Mountain, stands as the emblem of Hainan Island, boasting the title of the island’s highest peak at 1,840 meters (6,040 feet) above sea level. Wuzhishan City, named after the mountain, serves as the gateway to this natural wonder. Situated in Shuiman Town, the mountain is approximately a 30-minute drive from Wuzhishan City.
Wuzhishan City and Mountain Wuzhishan occupy a central position on Hainan Island, conveniently accessible via National Road G224 or Hainan Middle Highway, which links Sanya and Haikou. Traveling by bus, it takes around 3 hours to reach Shuiman Town from Sanya, the base of Mountain Wuzhishan. As there are no airports or train stations in Wuzhishan, visitors typically arrive via Haikou Airport in the north or Sanya Airport in the south. It is advisable to plan your journey to arrive at your accommodation before sunset due to the challenging mountain roads, particularly in low light conditions.
Climbing Trails of Mountain Wuizhishan Hainan:
Exploring the tropical rainforest of Wuzhishan is a highlight of any visit. There are two main trails for climbing the mountain. One offers a relatively easier ascent with wooden steps taking approximately 2 hours for a round trip. The other trail presents a more challenging route, requiring 3-4 hours to reach the 2nd summit and around 2 hours to descend. Both trails of Wuzhishan Five-Finger Mountain are open to foreigners.
Best Time to Climb Wuzhishan (Five-Finger Mountain):
To avoid the heat and rain, the ideal time to climb Wuzhishan is during Hainan’s dry season, which runs from November to March. This period offers cool and dry conditions, making for a more enjoyable hiking experience. Climbing during the rainy season can be dangerous and challenging. Even in the dry season, occasional rain can occur, so it’s advisable to check the weather forecast about a week in advance. We successfully completed our trip in mid-January on a sunny day.
